Straightening brush or flat iron: which should you choose?
Share
To get straight hair, two tools come up again and again: the flat iron and the straightening brush. They don't meet the same needs. Here is how to choose.
The flat iron: very sleek, but at high temperature
A flat iron clamps each section between two heated plates. The result is very straight, even on frizzy hair. The downside: repeated heat dries out the fibre, weakens the ends and calls for a heat-protection spray. You also have to wait for it to heat up, then cool down.
The no-heat straightening brush: everyday smoothness, gently
A mist straightening brush doesn't heat up. It releases a light veil of water while its bristles detangle and smooth each section. The result looks more natural: hair is smooth and shiny but keeps its volume and movement.
In short
| Flat iron | Mist straightening brush | |
|---|---|---|
| Heat | Very high | None |
| Heat-up time | Yes | No, ready instantly |
| Detangles at the same time | No | Yes |
| Result | Very straight, flatter | Smooth, natural, with volume |
| Very frizzy hair | Straightens fully | Tames and reduces frizz |
So which one?
- You want a very flat finish for a special occasion on very frizzy hair: the flat iron is still the most effective tool.
- You want smoother hair every morning, without damage and without wasting time: the straightening brush is made for you.
Many people use both: the brush every day, the iron now and then. Your lengths get much less heat that way.
