How to straighten your hair without heat
Share
A flat iron gives a sleek result, but repeated heat dries out your lengths, makes them break and dulls their shine. The good news: you can get smoother hair every day without exposing it to a hot iron. Here are our tips.
1. Start with detangled hair
Smooth hair starts with no knots. Detangle gently, from the ends up to the roots, with a soft-bristle brush or a wide-tooth comb.
2. Lightly moisturise your lengths
Frizz shows up mostly when hair is dry. A very light veil of water softens the fibre and makes it easier to tame. Don't soak your hair: a few drops are enough.
3. Brush section by section, keeping it taut
Divide your hair into 4 to 6 sections. For each one, brush slowly from root to tip while keeping the section taut. Tension is what helps the hair lie straight.
4. Use a no-heat straightening brush
A mist straightening brush combines these steps in one: it releases a fine mist while its flexible bristles detangle and smooth each section. No heat-up time, no risk of burnt hair: brush as usual and style straight away.
5. Let it air-dry
After brushing, let your hair finish drying naturally, without tying it up or rubbing it. It keeps its shape and softness.
What to expect
On straight, wavy or slightly curly hair, these steps give smoother, shinier lengths with natural movement. On very frizzy hair, they tame and reduce frizz without replacing a flat iron.
